February 20-24 Schedule

Please enjoy your holiday on Monday, February 20, as we celebrate Islander Day.   Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 21.   This week we welcome Miss Grant, a student teacher from Kingswood University, to our classroom.   Miss Grant will be spending the next seven weeks in our classroom as she practices teaching.

Please read the February 20-24 schedule for details specific to our class.   Remember skating begins this Friday, February 24.   All student must be picked up at Simmons Sports Arena at 2:30pm.

Upcoming Dates to Remember:

February 20 = No school in honor of Islander Day

February 24 = first afternoon of skating at Simmons (Ice time:1:30-2:30pm)  Helmets are mandatory for all students.

February 27 = sleigh ride at Terpstra’s, leaving the school at 9am and returning by 11am, cost: $5/student and $6/adult, helmets are mandatory for the sledding hill

March 2 = skating at Simmons (Ice time:1:30-2:30pm)  Helmets are mandatory for all students.

March 6 = Field trip: Snowshoeing in the afternoon (no cost, but we will need drivers/chaperones)

March 9 = Skating at Simmons (Ice time:1:30-2:30pm)  Helmets are mandatory for all students.

March 16 = Skating at Simmons (Ice time:1:30-2:30pm)  Helmets are mandatory for all students.

March 17-25 = March Break

February 13-17 Schedule

Report cards went home on Wednesday of this week.   Please sign and return the bright orange communication form in the envelope as soon as possible.   The actual report card is yours to keep.

Next week is a regular five day week.   Please read the February 13-17 schedule for details specific to our class.   Please take the time to read the Valentine’s Party Note 2012 (incldues a list of names for Valentines) and the 100 Hundred Days of School 2012 for details regarding these special events in our class.

February dates and events to remember:

Friday, February 10 = Jack Frost Field Trip (meet at 11:45am at the school and pick up at 2pm at the school doors)

Tuesday, February 14 = Valentine’s Day Party in the afternoon (need volunteers to donate finger foods, please comment in the blog section of this post to avoid duplication)   I know that Josh is bringing chips and Tenny is bringing cookies.

Please read the Valentine’s Party Note 2012 for more specific information and a list of names for the Valentine’s cards.   Since we will be sledding for a longer period of time, please send your child witha helmet.

February 17 = 100 Hundred Days of School (need old toy flyers, bring 8 items for our class food drive, optional dress up day: wear a fashion from the year 2112)

February 6-10 Schedule

Next week is another short week.   Students have a four day week, followed by a long weekend starting on Friday, February 10.   Report cards will go home on Wednesday and parent teacher interviews are on either Thursday, February 9 from 6-9pm or Friday, February 10 from 10am-12noon.   Please contact the office if you would like an appointmtent.

The most newsworthy event of the week for our class  is that we have been invited to preview the Jack Frost Winterfest.   The only day we can attend is Friday, February 10.   For those that would like to attend, I will be taking my class to this event after parent teacher interviews on Friday morning.   Interested students must be dropped off at the school at 11:45am and picked up at 2pm.   I realize this is scheduled as a day off from school and you may have plans already, but I wanted to offer this opportunity to my students.   I also know that some of the children will attend with their families on the weekend.    Please make a decision regarding your child’s attendance at this event by Tuesday, February 7, as this is when permission slips and money are due.   If you do not want your child to attend, please email me so I can make plans accordingly regarding drives and supervision.

January 30-February 3 Schedule

Thank you for promptly picking up your children for yesterday’s early dismissal.   Your cooperation was greatly appreciated by the staff as this allowed us to travel home before the storm was anticipated to start.  

During the inclement weather or anticipated inclement weathert, it is always best to listen to the radio before school starts and throughout the day for school closures or delays in opening.   Grace Christian School follows the Eastern School District for delays, early dimissal and closures.   Please note that on school days when there is an hour delay, there is no adult supervision until 9:20am.      Radio stations that broadcast school information include Ocean 100.3FM and KRock 105.5FM’s Storm Centre, CFCY 95.1FM and Magic 93′s Stormwatch, or CBC PEI’s Storm Centre.

Next week, we will have two mini-weeks of school, as the students do not have school on Wednesday, February 1 due to a professional development day for staff.   Please see the January 30-February 3 schedule for details specific to our class.

School Closing at 1pm on Friday, January 27

All schools in the easten school district are closing two hours early.   This means we will be closing at 1pm.  Please pick up your children as soon as possible.  Elementary students are waiting in their classrooms.   Thanks.

January 23-27 Schedule

The month of January is rolling right along.   Despite the lack of snow, the children are making the best of our winter and still enjoying their outdoor recess time.   When we still had snow, they were transporting it on their sleds to our hill to create a sled run.    Now that there is ice, they are practicing skating.   It is wonderful to see their imaginations at work.

January 16-20 Schedule

We had a busy full five day week at school.   This afternoon we had our annual school-wide spelling bee.   We had many eager participants from our classroom for the junior spelling bee.  At the senior level (grades 4-8), after 44 rounds, Hannah McGonnell (gr. 5) became our new champion by correctly spelling reimbursable.    She will be representing our school at the provincial bee at UPEI on Saturday, February 25.   All the participants from grades 1-8 are winners simply for being willing to spell in front of audience.
