Science class – This week, we have started our first unit of study in science. We will be exploring the sea. During story time, I am interested in reading some fictional stories set in the sea. If your child has any books he/she would like to share with the class, please make sure his/her name is on the book before it comes to school. We will read these books over the next few weeks and then return them. Thanks for your help.
The week of September 26-30 will be a busy week. We will have many different activities including gym, french, music, computers and the Terry Fox Run. The Terry Fox Run will be held on Wednesday, September 28 at 2pm. Parents are welcome to attend.
Also next week, the first grades students will be starting homework. They have been practicing their reading daily in school and will benefit greatly from the extra daily practice at home as well. The second graders continue to enthusiastically review last year’s lessons through the use of our new Smartboard.
Mrs. Laird would like me to remind you that on gym days all students should wear outdoor sneakers. During the nice weather, gym is held outdoors and it is much safer for the children to wear sneakers when participating in gym time. Thank you.
For a more detailed schedule, please see Sept. 26-30.
Another week has passed. During class time, the first graders are enjoying reading their first reader, Fun With Pets. The second graders are enjoying the challenge of sharpening their own reading skills and comprehending place value. At recess, the children continue to be excited to use our new playground equipment.
Next week, we really begin to settle into our routine. Please see Sept. 19-23 for a schedule of events. Feel free to print off this schedule and post it in a prominent place in your home for quick reference.
In an effort to communicate with parents, I will be posting a weekly schedule of events on my blog. Please check this frequently for changes that might arise. Another form of communication is your child’s agenda. Please check this nightly for daily work or notes. Even on nights that there is no homework assigned, please sign the agenda. This will help me to know that you have received any notes from myself or the school. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
Welcome back to school. We are off to a great start. Over the past week, I have been enjoying getting to know the new first graders. The second graders are enjoying reviewing last year’s material with the help of our new Smartboard. This new technology engages many different styles of learners and today’s computer generation. I look forward to seeing all the bright faces throughout the year, as we learn together how to use this wonderful gift.
