January 30-February 3 Schedule

Thank you for promptly picking up your children for yesterday’s early dismissal.   Your cooperation was greatly appreciated by the staff as this allowed us to travel home before the storm was anticipated to start.

During the inclement weather or anticipated inclement weathert, it is always best to listen to the radio before school starts and throughout the day for school closures or delays in opening.   Grace Christian School follows the Eastern School District for delays, early dimissal and closures.   Please note that on school days when there is an hour delay, there is no adult supervision until 9:20am.      Radio stations that broadcast school information include Ocean 100.3FM and KRock 105.5FM’s Storm Centre, CFCY 95.1FM and Magic 93’s Stormwatch, or CBC PEI’s Storm Centre.

Next week, we will have two mini-weeks of school, as the students do not have school on Wednesday, February 1 due to a professional development day for staff.   Please see the January 30-February 3 schedule for details specific to our class.

Dates to remember:

Wednesday, February 1 = Professional Development Day, no school

Wednesday, February 8 = Report Cards go home

Thursday, February 9 = Parent Teacher Interviews (6-9pm by appointment only)

Friday, February 10 = Parent Teacher Interviews (10am – 12 noon by appointment only), no school

Things we need for our classroom:   Popsicle sticks, small black meat trays, old toy flyers

If you have any of these items, please send them in whenever you are able.    Thanks for your continued support.

January 23-27 Schedule

The month of January is rolling right along.   Despite the lack of snow, the children are making the best of our winter and still enjoying their outdoor recess time.   When we still had snow, they were transporting it on their sleds to our hill to create a sled run.    Now that there is ice, they are practicing skating.   It is wonderful to see their imaginations at work.

Next week is a regular five day week of school.    Please see the January 23-27 schedule for details specific to our class.

January 16-20 Schedule

We had a busy full five day week at school.   This afternoon we had our annual school-wide spelling bee.   We had many eager participants from our classroom for the junior spelling bee.  At the senior level (grades 4-8), after 44 rounds, Hannah McGonnell (gr. 5) became our new champion by correctly spelling reimbursable.    She will be representing our school at the provincial bee at UPEI on Saturday, February 25.   All the participants from grades 1-8 are winners simply for being willing to spell in front of audience.

Please see January 16-20 schedule for specific daily details pertaining to our class.

January 9-13 Schedule

We have finished our first short week of 2012.  It was nice to have a short week to get back into the routine of school including homework.   Nightly completion of homework is essential to your child progressing academically.   I appreciate the effort both parents and students make to fulfill this obligation on a regular basis.

A few reminders now that winter has arrived:

Please remember to check the weather each morning and choose appropriate clothing for your child.   We will go outside most days, so snowpants, hat, mitts and boots are vital.    Many of the children have wet socks and mitts after one recess, please send spare pairs to school.

Also, if you have not sent a complete change of clothes with your child, please do so on Monday.   It is very convenient for your child to change quickly and return to class, saving you a trip to school, if water soaks through their snowpants.   Thanks for your help.

Next week is a regular, five day week.    Please see the January 9-13 schedule for specific details pertaining to our class.

January 2-6 Schedule

Welcome to 2012.   Our first day of school is Tuesday, January 3.   Please see the January 2-6 detailed weekly schedule for events pertaining to our class.

This week, we will be enjoying Christmas show and tell.   Each student may bring one  small item that fits in their backpack to school on the day that are assigned.   Please check the detailed schedule to see what day your child should be prepared to share with the class.   I look forward to hearing all their stories from Christmas vacation.

Homework will restart on Tuesday.   A reminder that our classroom procedure for reading homework is that each child should read the assigned pages twice to himself and once to an adult.   Upon completion of the homework, an adult should sign the child’s agenda.  If homework was not completed, please leave me a quick note explaining that fact.   Agendas should be signed nightly, even on “no homework” nights to ensure proper communication between the home and school.   Thanks for your help in this matter.
