June 18-22 Schedule

Our final week of school is upon us.   It has been a wonderful year.  I have been so blessed to have the privilege to teach your children for the past year.   I look forward to summer vacation and returning refreshed in the fall.  Over the summer, I will miss the children’s hugs and stories.

Please note the following events for the week of June 18-22:

Monday, June 18 = End of the Year Party at Mulberry Park

-lunch (hot dogs, cake and ice cream) is my treat to the students

Bring: extra water, sunscreen, snacks, a hat, small outdoor toys

Tuesday, June 19 = last day of classes for grades 1 & 2

Wednesday, June 20 = no school for grade 1 & 2 (new first grade students will visit Miss Doyle)

Thursday, June 21 = Family Day at Sandspit

The ride bracelets this year will be $12.00 per person and allow for all rides except the go-carts; all parents are required to pay for their own bracelets. When purchasing bracelets, let the cashier know you are with the GCS group. Hours of operation are from 9:30-3:30pm. This is a great opportunity for you to come and enjoy your children and the fellowship of other parents. You are reminded that there is no supervision by GCS staff and each parent is responsible for either attending with their children or making provision for your child to be supervised. RAIN DATE is Monday, June 25th.

Friday, June 22 = School Closing Assembly

Come join us  from 9:00a.m.-11:30a.m., as we officially end another year. Students are to arrive by 9:00 a.m. in school dress. We will be having a time of celebration, awards, and reminiscing about the year, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Report cards will be handed out after the ceremony. If you are unable to attend or want to leave early, please notify the office and your child’s report card will be mailed to you. No report cards will be handed out until after the ceremony.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Field Trip

Thursday morning, June 14, we will be visiting the QEH.   At this time, we will be donating the pennies our class has been saving.   The Foundation will use this money to purchase a new crib.   We will then have a short tour of the pediatrics unit.

During our tour, it is extremely important that all students be on their best behavior and conduct themselves wisely.   In class, we have discussed the importance of talking softly to allow the patients an opportunity to get their much needed rest.   We have also discussed the importance of walking and staying with the group.   Please take a few minutes to review proper hospital etiquette with your child.  Thanks for your continued support.

June 11-15 Schedule

For those of you who have not heard, Mr. and Mrs. Biech welcomed Caden Gregory into their family on Thursday, June 7.   Caden’s proud big sister is Penny.

Next week is the final full week of classes at Grace.   We will be going on a field trip on Thursday, June 14.   The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation will be receiving the pennies we have been collecting.   After dropping off our donation, we will be having a short tour of pediatrics.

Our show and tell theme for this week is summer vacation.   Please bring an item or picture that reminds you of something you would like to do over your summer vacation.   Please read the June 11-15 schedule for specific details pertaining to our class.

Flu hits our class

Please be aware that since yesterday afternoon, I have had 7 students contract flu like symptoms.   It starts with severe stomach cramps and quickly moves to incontrollable vomiting and diarrhea.

If your child is exhibiting any of these symptoms, please keep your child home.   If vomiting or diarrhea occur, your child should stay home for at least 24 hours after the last incident.   We do not want this to spread any further.    Thank you for your help in this matter.

Dental Health Clinic at GCS

The Public Health Preventative Dental Services Clinic is at GCS for the next two weeks.   The Children’s Dental Care Program provides preventative services, at no cost, for children ages 3-17 inclusive.   Our class was screened today.   Each child has gone home with a yellow paper outlining the free services that are recommended.   It is in the conversation pocket of the agendas.   Please complete and return this form as soon as possible so that they can begin preventative dental services.

June 4-8 Schedule

We are officially into our final month of school.    Over the next three weeks, your children will continue to work hard to prepare for the next grade.   There are lots of important dates to remember.   Please check my blog frequently, as I will try to keep you informed of any changes.

As we start our third final week of school for 2011-2012, the children are anticipating the celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee with our Garden Party on Monday, June 4.   If anyone would like to send in fresh cut garden flowers to decorate our tables, it would be appreciated.   Remember that students are encouraged to dress up to meet the “Queen” and other members of the royal family who may stop in for a visit.

On Wednesday, June 6, our class will be attending the Agriculture/Forestry Fun Day at the J. Frank Gaudet Tree Nursery on the Upton Road.   Our class will not wear chapel clothes due to the field trip.

Our show and tell theme for this week is your favorite memory from the past school year.   Each student should bring a hand drawn colored picture and be prepared to tell in three or four sentences about their favorite memory from the past school year.    Please read the June 4-8 schedule carefully for specific details pertaining to our class, including tests and show and tell dates.
