October 22 – November 2 Schedule

Praise the Lord for a wonderful week.  We hosted a very successful Ford Test Drive event and BBQ on Wednesday.   Through these two events, we raised over $7,000.   This money will be well spent on new desks in the elementary.  Thank you to everyone who volunteered, test drove a car, invited friends/family, and ate at the BBQ.   Together, we provided a wonderful testimony to our community.

Friday was also an exciting day as we had our school pictures taken.   Prints will be sent home sometime in the next few weeks.   The photographer assured me that orders would be filled before Christmas.

Next week is a short week for the students.   There is no school on Thursday and Friday, as the faculty will be traveling to Moncton for professional development at our annual Association of Christian Schools International Convention.   Take note that our printable weekly schedule includes both this week (October 22-26) and next week (October 29-November 2).   In addition to our regular tests and events, please note that our class will be going on a field trip to the Charlottetown Fire Department on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 30.  Drivers are needed.

October 15-19 Schedule

We had a fantastic end to our short week.   The fall party was a resounding success.   In the words of one first grade student, “This is way better than the corn maze.   It’s the bestest day ever.”   Our class would like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Herron who spent part of her morning helping us with our perler bead art activity.   We would also like to say thank you to the parents who sent in treats for us to enjoy throughout the day.

Next week is a busy week.   In addition to our regular activites, we are anticipating a successful Ford Test Drive event on Wednesday, October 17.   Volunteers are still needed.   We are looking to raise at least $6000 through this great fundraiser.  In order to make this happen, we need your help!

Test Drive A Car

  • Ford Canada will donate $20 to the school for each test drive completed by one fully licensed, 18 year old or older driver per address/household.

  • In order for us to run this event efficiently, we need lots of volunteers.  Volunteers are needed to ride along during test drives (minimum 8 people), accept registrations, perform general bbq/food duties, etc. Contact Mr. Biech at principal@gracechristianschool.ca if you are interested.

Invite all of your friends

  • Invite friends, extended family, and co-workers to not only test drive a car but also to purchase food at our bbq.

Market this event through social media

  • We have created a commercial for this event.  Please use/copy the link below to post to Facebook, Twitter, blogs, email, etc.

We will be hosting a bbq from 11am-1:30pm and from 4pm-6:30pm.  Hamburgers ($2), hotdogs ($1), Cavendish Farms french fries ($2), popcorn ($1), and drinks ($1) will be available for a great price.

Field Trip Cancelled – Fall Party Happenings

Due to the predicted poor weather on Friday (rain and wind) and on our raindate Monday (more rain), I have made the difficult decision to have our fall party at the school on Friday, October 12.   We will be playing games, participating in art and music activities, watching a movie, enjoying Mathletics and eating pizza for lunch.   The money collected for the corn maze field trip will be used to pay for art supplies and lunch.

Please send your child to school with their agenda, snacks, water and a smile.   Pizza and a sweet treat will be provided for lunch.

Thank you for understanding about the change in plans.   Also, thank you to our faithful parents who were willing to drive and supervise on the field trip.

October 8-13 Schedule

Happy Thanksgiving!   This week, your child made a cute turkey using his/her footprint and handprints.   Why not take some time this weekend to count your blessings and write one thing on every finger that you are thankful for as a family.   We had a great discussion about this as we were making the turkeys, so I know your child has lots of ideas.

As we continue to progress throughout the year, please continue to complete nightly reading and spelling homework.   The extra practice is essential to your child’s continued academic progress.    All students can benefit from practicing basic addition and subtraction facts.   First grade should be memorizing 1-6 addition/subtraction families and second grade should be memorizing 11-12 addition/subtraction families.   Dollarstore flashcards and Live Mathletics are great resources.   Please click on 1-7 Addition-Subtraction Families and/or 8-13 Addition-Subtraction Families to see what we call “families”.

Next week, we will be having our fall party on Friday, October 12 at the Belfast Corn Maze.   Permission slips went home this week and are due back with payment on Wednesday, October 10.   Additional permission slips: Belfast Corn Maze Permission Slip

Your child might be interested in participating in the PEI Spud Run in conjunction with PEI Marathon weekend.   This free activity includes a t-shirt (while supplies last), an official race bib, a completion certificate and a goodie bag.   The event takes place at UPEI on Saturday, October 13 starting at 10am.   Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.   Check out the PEI Marathon website (http://www.peimarathon.ca/index.php?page=kids-spud-run) for more details.

Our class has been invited to visit the Laird family farm for a hayride and other outdoor activities on Wednesday, October 3.   Mr. Laird will be driving the school bus to his house.   Chaperones are welcome to drive on the bus.   Today, the children took home permission slips to be signed and returned tomorrow morning in the conversation pocket of their agendas.   Please send your child to school with a signed permission slip, appropriate clothing for the weather, lunch and extra water.    We will return to the school in time for library and art in the afternoon.   Extra permission slips: Laird Farm Permission Slip
