June 3-7 Schedule

In just a few short weeks, summer vacation will be upon us.   Please be vigilant about checking agendas every night.   There will still be homework and assessments will be given over the next couple of weeks.   Encourage your child to finish the school year well.   Each day counts.

field_trip_h[1]Weather permitting, we will be going on a field trip on Monday, June 3 to the PEI National Park (Dalvay).   Everyone should bring their own lunch, extra water, sunscreen, bugspray and a hat.  In case of bad weather, I will post a postponement notice on the blog on Monday morning before 8am.   Our rain date is Tuesday, June 4.   Rides are tight, it would be great if one more parent would be able to help with this trip.   Please respond to this blog post if you have not previously agreed to drive and are now able to accompany us.

On Tuesday, we will be having our weekly show and tell.  This week’s theme is “Your Favorite School Memory from 2012/2013“.   Each child is asked to draw a picture of their favorite thing we did this year.   Each child should be prepared to share their favorite memory and tell one reason why it was their favorite.    If the field trip is moved to Tuesday, then show and tell will move to Monday.   Everyone will be sharing, so please take some time to discuss and plan this with your child.

Please read, post and refer to our regular weekly events schedule: June 3-7

All will be tallied and presented to Miss Farrer at School Closing.

May 27-31 Schedule

We are officially into our last four weeks of the 2012-2013 schedule.   Please continue to sign agendas nightly.   It is vital for our daily communication between school and home that you continue to check for notes/permission slips in the conversation pocket.   This weekend, each child in my class took home a brochure from the provincial library outlining their free summer reading program.   This is a fantastic program and helps your child practice his/her present reading skills and will make the return to school easier in September.

With the increasingly nice weather, I have reduced the number of nights we have homework.   However, it is essential that homework be completed when it is assigned.   For reading homework, your child should read his/her assignment twice to themselves and then once to an adult.   This is a total of three times for the same passage.    After your child has read to you, please take a few moments to ask some basic comprehension questions over the assignment.   Over the next month, we are emphasizing reading comprehension.

This is a regular five day week of school.   On Tuesday afternoon, we will be having show and tell.   Our theme this week is “Whatever the Weather”.   Students are encouraged to bring an item related to the weather.   Everyone should be prepared to tell what the item is and why it its important.    Some examples include: Mitts, snow shovel, rubber boots, raincoat, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.   On Monday night, please practice with your child and pack the item in their backpack.   Everyone will be participating and it is much easier to have an item to show while you are doing your telling.

Please refer to our regular weekly schedule of tests and events: May 27-31

On Tuesday, May 21 we will be having our weekly show and tell.   This week’s theme is The Farm.   Each student is encouraged to bring one item or animal found on a farm.   He/she should be prepared to tell in two or three sentences what the item is and why it is important on a farm.    Telling is always easier with a prop in hand and a practice session of what you would like to share with your classmates.   Please have your child practice and pack their item on Monday night.

medium_creamery[1]On Friday, May 24 we will be going on a field trip to Cows Creamery.   Students will tour the factory, sample Cow Chips, cheese and ice cream.   I still need permission slips (Cows Creamery Tour) and $3 admission from a number of students.
