Thank you to those who made it out to Parent teacher interviews. I appreciate the support and involvement of so many parents. If you were not able to make it out on Thursday or Friday and still wish to meet with me, please let me know and I would be happy to set up a time to meet with you.
That time of year:
November is upon us and the colder weather has set in. Please remember to send your child to school with appropriate clothing for this time of year. That includes hat, mitts, snow pants and winter boots.
We have been fortunate so far not to have had a lot of snow fall, however, in the event that bad weather happens on a school day please note that GCS will follow the English Language school board for delays and cancellations.
Coming up this week:
Art Gallery Trip:
Tuesday November 18th — Grades 1-4 will be taking a trip down town to go the the Confederation Center Art gallery. Students will be given a 15 minute tour of the Five Decades of Canadian Art exhibit. Folowing the tour students will take in a 45 minute art activity where students will take part in creating their own piece of art. We will also be visiting the Library as well as a brief visit to Province House. Permission slips were sent home with your child on Thursday, the cost of the trip will be $5.00. Please sign and return the slip by tomorrow. We are in need of a few more drivers. If you are available to drive for this event please let me know. If your child sits in a booster seat, please send it with them to school that day.
Operation Christmas Child Boxes:
GCS is once again taking part in Operation Christmas Child Boxes. Boxes will be due this Wednesday November 19th. Most students in the elementary did not receive a box to take home, however, if you still wish to take part you may send in items with your child. We have one box to fill in the grade one and two class. You may also use a regular shoe box and send that in as well.
This week’s Tests:
Wednesday November 19thth — Math Test
Thursday November 20th — Phonics test
Friday November 21st — Spelling test (List # 5 gr. 1, List # 7 Gr. 2)
Last week students took part in learning stations related to Remembrance Day. Students learned about the poppy, the wreath and about the Last post. Students also had the opportunity to see some of the equipment that was used by the soldiers.
Here are a few pictures from that event:
