Hello Parents,

I hope you all had a great weekend.

Don’t forget that tomorrow evening is our GCS Family Potluck.   Everyone is invited  to join us tomorrow evening,  September 28th, at 5:30 PM, for some great food and fellowship.  Please bring your favorite main course dish or dessert, and we will provide the rolls and drinks, great food and fellowship.  We would love to see all of you there!

Thank you for being diligent in signing your child’s agenda each night.  I appreciate the time you spend each night going over your child’s work.  It is an essential part of your child’s education.  Each night your child also brings home a blue folder.  If there are sheets on the “Right back to school” side of the folder, please have your child complete the page for homework and place it back in the “Right back to school”  side.   Please take out any sheets that are on the “Left at home” side; they do not need to be returned to school.

This week in grade one and two:

This week grade one and two will start a new memory verse.   I will post it below, if you wish to review it each night with your child.

Please check your child’s agenda each night.  Every night students will be required to do reading and spelling homework.   Reading homework began last week. Spelling homework will begin next week for grade two.  Grade one spelling homework will begin the first week in October.  Once your child has completed their homework each night, please sign your child’s agenda.  Agendas will be checked every morning to ensure homework was completed.

In class everyday students are assigned seat work pages that are to be completed during class time.  However, in the event that a student does not complete their pages, or if they were absent the day before, pages will be sent home in their blue folder.  Pages that are in the “Right back to school”  side of the folder should be completed for homework and returned to class the next day.   If you have any question please feel free to email me at jbarton@gcspei.ca.

Back to School Tomorrow!

Hello Parents,

Hard to believe that it is back to school time already!   The classroom is ready and I am excited to meet all my new students and welcome back grade two tomorrow.  School begins at 9:00am. Please have your child at the school by 8:45am to ensure that they are prepared to start at 9:00am.

What’s new in Grade one and two this year?

  • I am very pleased to announce that Mrs. Arthurs will be helping out full time in our class.  Mrs. Arthurs helped out last year in the kindergarten class so many of the students will be familiar with her.
  • Students will have a homework bag to take home each night.  The bag will contain their readers, take home folder (with their spelling lists), and blue folder.  Please look inside the blue folder each night.  Sheets on the left can be “Left at home”  and sheet on the right should be completed for homework and sent “Right back to school.”
  • Because of the class size the grade one and two class will not be equipped with a microwave.  Parents are asked to pack lunches that do not need to be heated up in the microwave.

Important Dates:

Friday Sept. 10th  — International student parent information night:

Mrs. Huizing and her ESL team will be hosting an information night for all parents who have students in the ESL program.  This will start at 7:00pm.  Click  here for more information.

Monday Sept. 14th  – Meet the teacher night:

We will be hosting a meet the teacher night.  All are welcome to come out to get to know your child’s teacher and see their classroom.  This event will begin at 6:30pm in the sanctuary.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at 9:00 am!!

Mrs. Barton
