February 1st – 4th

Hello Parents,

Well, we made it to the half way point in the year!  I know I have said this before but this year is going by so fast.  The next five months will go by just as quickly I am sure.

Report cards go out to your child on Thursday.  Parent teacher interviews are Thursday night from 6:00 – 9:00 and Friday morning from 10:00 – 12:00.  The sign up sheet for appointments is located just inside school’s entrance.  If you have not already done so, please sign up for a time to meet.  I would love to meet with you and chat about your child’s progress this quarter.

Memory Verse:

This week in grade one and two Bible students will continue to memorize Deuteronomy 7:9

Know therefore that the  Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.

This week’s tests:

Tuesday — Phonics test

Wednesday – Math Test

Thursday — Spelling test ( List # 13 grade one, List # 16 grade two)

Grade two vocabulary:

This week marks the first week that grade two will be expected to know three vocabulary words on their spelling test.  Students will be given their regular word list, however a new section of the test will contain vocabulary words. For the vocabulary section of the test students will be expected to know how to spell all three words as well as be able to write the definition of each word.  One word will be chosen by the teacher to write in a sentence.   This section will be marked out of ten, with one mark for spelling and one for the definition (2 marks each word) and 4 marks given for the correct use in a sentence  ( 1 mark for a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence, 1 mark for proper punctuation, 1 mark for correct spelling, 1 mark for correct use in the sentence).   Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this.

Love Of Reading Week:

During the 2nd week of February, students will celebrate ‘Love Of Reading Week’. Reading matters! After all, God uses the stories recorded in His Word to communicate with us. We relate, we learn, we experience, we see God at work in the life stories of ourselves and others…if we take the time to read them!

During Love Of Reading Week it is our hope that students will build and enhance their life-long love for reading!  Some of the celebration activities planned include:

  • Character Dress-Up Day
  • Stop, Drop, & Read Days
  • Reading Buddies
  • School-wide Book Fair
  • Much, much more.

Enjoy you week,

Mrs. Barton

January 25th – 28th

Hello Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are half way through the school year. Exams for our Junior High and High school will take place this week.  January 29th will be a PD day.  There will be no class this Friday.  However, if there is a cancellation this week due to weather, we will have class on Friday to allow the Junior High and High school to make up their exam. Please watch for announcements on MySchool Management, e-mail, Facebook, and/or Twitter for any extenuating circumstances during the week.

This week in grade one and two, students will have an opportunity to serve others as we travel to Geneva Villa on Tuesday, January 26th .  Students will sing a few songs and recite some verses.  Students will then be given an opportunity to talk with some of the residents as well as read a short story to them.   A permission slip was sent home in your child’s agenda on Thursday.  If you have not already returned the signed permission slip please do so tomorrow.   Thank you to those who have offered to drive.  We are in need of drivers for five more students.  If you are available to drive please email me at jbarton@gcspei.ca.    We will be leaving the school at 10:45 and returning in time for lunch at 12:15.

January 17th – 22nd

Hello Parents,

This week in bible class students will continue to study John 8:31-32.

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Grade two pet show!

Grade two have been reading a story called No Longer a Nobody.  In the story the main character, Sammy,  has a pet show to get ready for in his class.  Sammy doesn’t have a pet, but he finds a snail and he learns everything he can about the snail. Slowpoke the snail becomes Sammy’s pet and  Sammy even wins a prize in his class’s pet show.

Grade two finished the story on Friday and will be having their own pet show on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.   Students have already chosen the animal they are going to present and have been working on three things to say about their pet or favourite animal.

For this pet show I would like students to bring in a picture and/or video of their pet, or if you don’t have a pet, of your favourite animal.  Each student will be required to  show the picture or video of their animal and tell us three things about it.

If you would like to email your child’s picture of video please send it to jbarton@gcspei.ca  so I can have it ready to show when they present.
