December 19th – 21st

Hello Parents,

download

We have made it to our last days of school for 2016.  It’s hard to believe that the school year is going so quickly.  I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We have a busy couple of days ahead of us.

Christmas Musical:

Students will be presenting their Christmas musical,  The Power of  the KING, tomorrow December 19th.  Performances will be at 1:30 and 6:30. Students are to dress in red, white, silver, or black for BOTH performances.  Since the performance begins at 6:30, please make sure your child is here by 6:00 to get lined up downstairs. It should be a smash hit! We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Grade two pet show:

Grade two students have been working on a pet show presentation.  Students are writing about their pet, or favourite animal if they don’t have a pet, and will be presenting it to the class.  I was hoping to do this before Christmas, but with the cancellations due to bad weather, we will have to postpone it until after Christmas.  However,  students will be expected to have a picture or a video to present.  If you have a picture or video of your child’s pet or favourite animal, please email it to me at jbarton@gcspei.ca.  Students may also bring in a printed picture.

Wednesday half day and Christmas parties:

Our last day of school for 2016 is Wednesday, December 21st.   Our week ends with a half day filled with Christmas games and activities! Students need to be picked up at 12:00.

Improtant Dates:

December 21 – Christmas Parties (half day)

December 22 – January 3 – Christmas Break

January 4 – First Day of School 2017

Enjoy your week,

Mrs. Barton

December 12th – 16th

Hello Parents,

This past week grade one and two visited the Burnside Community Care facility in Clyde River.  I  was very proud of how well students interacted with the residence.  Students were able present songs from the Christmas program and then read to the residence.  We had one resident call the school to tell us how much she and other residences appreciated the children.

Weather permitting, we will have the opportunity to visit Geneva Villa on Tuesday  December 13th.  A permission slip was send home with you child on Friday.  We will need drivers for this event.  Please indicate on the permission slip if you are able to drive, as well as how many students you can take.

December 5th-9th

Hello Parents,

We have a busy week this week with Christmas play practice on Monday and Thursday. We will also visit the Burnside Community Care facility on Wednesday.

Hour of Code

Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 190+ countries. Every 21st-century student should have the opportunity to take part in creating technology that’s changing our world. The basics of computer science and coding help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills, and prepare students for any future career.

Over 300 partners have come together to support this grassroots campaign, including Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, The Walt Disney Company, Target, the Gates Foundation, Khan Academy and more.

This week, every learner at GCS, from our youngest to oldest, will participate in a minimum of one hour coding tutorials. We are thrilled to be part of this campaign for a second year, and look forward to watching students embrace challenges and feel empowered by their learning.

Elementary Christmas Program:

The elementary students are very pleased to be presenting the musical The Power of the King for our annual Christmas program to take place on Friday, December 16th. Performances will take place at 1:30pm and 6:30pm. Students are asked to dress for the concert in red, silver, white, or black clothing.

Extra clothes:

All students in one and two have a box in their cubbies to keep an extra set of clothes. This time of year students often get wet when they are outside and have to change their clothes. Please send in a full change of clothes with your child so they will have it, in the event that they get wet. As well, socks often get wet so a few extra pairs of socks would be helpful to keep in their cubbies.

Please ensure that your child comes to school with snow pants, snow boots, hat, and mittens everyday.
